Corinne G. Bowen (Devlin)

Corinne G. Devlin

ELIOT, Maine - Corinne G. Devlin, 59, of Eliot, died Dec. 18, 2005, at York Hospital.

Corinne was a loving wife, devoted mother and dedicated teacher.

Born in Boston on Oct. 11, 1946, to Joseph and Aldine Bowen, she attended local schools and graduated in 1964 from North Quincy High School.

She earned a degree in elementary education from Emmanuel College in Boston in 1968. She continued her professional studies at several schools, earning a certificate in reading skills.

She was married to her loving husband, retired Maj. John J. Devlin Jr., for 37 years and enjoyed a home in Eliot, where they raised their daughter, Dianna. She was a loving mother to Dianna, and this past summer helped plan her wedding to Jestin Wyman of Kittery.

Corinne had taught in California, Texas, Michigan and Massachusetts before joining the staff at School Administrative District 35, Eliot and South Berwick. She worked first for a year at Central School in South Berwick and for many years at Eliot Elementary School and most recently at the Marshwood Middle School when it opened.

She is survived by her husband, retired Maj. John J. Devlin Jr. of Eliot; their daughter, Dianna; and Dianna's husband, Jestin Wyman.

WE REMEMBER: The majority of Corinne's career was spent as a fourth-grade teacher with students she dearly loved. Her class always enjoyed her late Friday recesses, where she would slide with them, and play basketball and four square. She always remembered her students? special days with a birthday doughnut. Each year ended with Corinne reciting a poem she had written talking about each one of her students.

Her district activities included her membership on the District Design Team, which was a leadership committee that centered around professional development for all staff. She always volunteered to work with student teachers as they received experience in the classroom. Mrs. Devlin was a leader of the Artist and Authors Committee and helped bring a number of artists/performers to the school.

Corinne enjoyed traveling, cooking, exercising and painting.

Corinne was a real "Squantum girl," so gorgeous inside and out.  I remember how the guys flocked to her the summer of 1963 when she wore white bermuda shorts that showed off her great tan.  I think that she became a beloved teacher in Maine.  She is very much missed.

I had a nice time at our 40th "Trying to Remember" with John and Corinne. I ran into John once at the Officers Club at KI Sawyer AFB in Michigan...1974? As I remember he was flying KC-135 tankers and served in Vietnam.
