John F. Drake

DRAKE, John F. Of Quincy, chief cardiac technologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and a Vietnam War veteran, died on April 14, 2012, after a brief illness.  He was 65.

Born in Boston, Mr. Drake lived in Quincy all his life. He graduated from North Quincy High School and Suffolk University.

As a specialist in the Army, he served two tours in Vietnam.

Mr. Drake worked for 48 years at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, first in the animal laboratory and most recently as the hospital’s chief cardiac technologist.

He loved spending time with family, golfing and traveling.  He was an avid fan of Boston’s sports teams.

Beloved husband of 42 years to Heather (Hird) Drake. Loving father of Kristin Eby and her husband, David of Attleboro and Adam Drake and his wife, Dana of Lawrenceville, NJ. Devoted son of the late Albert and Catherine (Borkin) Drake. Dear brother of Marion King and her husband, Tom of Scituate and Albert "Sonny" Drake and his wife, Mary of Quincy. Cherished grandfather of Owen Drake and Lauren and Emily Eby. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. John will be dearly missed by his golden retriever "Brady".

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Quincy.  Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Quincy.

  I rember john from welcome young playground, in north quincy. we played sports in he play ground although as time passed i was more a friend og his brother sonny. i met john at mgh in 2010, when my wife was very sick i often wondered why things just happened so quickly at mgh for my wife,know i know why john was working in the background to make things happen, but with all of john's help, my wife of 43 years didn't make it. Was very sorry to hear of is passing, Thank-you very much john     al
