A funeral service for Roland W. Small Jr., 70, of Milton, a science teacher at North Quincy High School for 34 years, was held December 20, 2002, at Church of the Holy Spirit in Mattapan.

He died December 15 in Milton Hospital.

Mr. Small retired in 1994.  He also worked part time at Lincoln Laboratories.

He had a passion for science and helped students prepare for the high school science fair, the South Shore Regional Science Fair and the Massachusetts State Science Fair.  He also donated money each year to help students attend the International Sciences and Engineering Fairs.

After retirement he tutored North Quincy High School students.

Born in Lewiston, Maine, he was a longtime resident of Milton.  He graduated from Milton High School in 1950, from Franklin Institute in 1952 and from Northeastern University in 1957.

He was the twin brother of the late David S. Small.

Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester.
