A funeral Mass was held April 9, 1985, in Sacred Heart Church, North Quincy, for Katherine G. McCoy, 79, a retired educator in Quincy public schools.

Miss McCoy died April 5 in Quincy City Hospital after a short illness.

Miss McCoy was a lifelong resident of North Quincy.

She taught girls gym and was girls’ dean at North Quincy High School for 45 years before retiring.

Miss McCoy was an original member of the Quincy recreation commission established in 1948.  In 1962 she was appointed to the park and recreation commission by Mayor Amelio A. Della Chiesa.

The McCoy ball field adjacent to Veterans Stadium, is named for her.

Miss McCoy is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery.
