Kenneth B. Rickson (Teacher)

Kenneth B. Rickson, age 82, of Quincy died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at the Coyne Healthcare Center in Rockland, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness. Mr. Rickson was born, raised, and educated in Springfield. He graduated from the former Classical High School in Springfield, Class of 1946, and Boston University, Class of 1951. He received his master's degree from Bridgewater State College and his Doctorate in Education from Boston University. He had lived in Quincy for 57 years, previously living in Baldwinsville, a section of Templeton. He was employed for 36 years by the city of Quincy. He worked as the physical education teacher at North Quincy High School for 15 years. He coached various sports teams including the North Quincy High School Boys Basketball Team. He was the athletic director for the city of Quincy and then worked for 20 years as the director of Physical Education and Health. He retired in 1987. He earlier worked for two years as a physical education teacher and coach in Templeton. After retirement, Mr. Rickson continued teaching young children in tennis and a variety of sports at both the Quincy Tennis Club and Milton Academy. Mr. Rickson was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Quincy. He enjoyed tennis and was ranked as a New England tennis player for many years. He was a member of the Quincy Tennis Club and the Weymouth Club. Mr. Rickson was a longtime active member of the Bethany Congregational Church in Quincy. He and his wife co-chaired the Diaconate Committee at the church for six years. Mr. Rickson served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Beloved husband for 60 years of Mildred H. (Vickers) Rickson, he was the devoted father of Kenneth O. Rickson of Hobe Sound, Fla., Jane A. McGuinness and her husband Mark of Scituate, Sally A. Goldman and her husband Stephen of Milton and Linda S. Savage and her husband David of Quincy; loving grandfather of James Rickson, Lauren Rickson, Benjamin McGuinness, Molly McGuinness, Gregory Goldman, Diana McDevitt and her husband Brady, Leah Goldman, Maxwell DeVoe and Mallory DeVoe.

Loved Rickson and his weird sense of humor, had him for gym, gymnastics and basketball, a little quick on the temper but you Had to love him, sorry he has passed
